Il Volume 5 della serie 'Rare Elvis' ha come sottotitolo 'Celluloid Treasures' il che ci suggerisce che tale CD si focalizza sulla carriera cinematografica di Elvis dagli anni '50 agli anni '60. Una compilation di brani poco utilizzati nei CD di Elvis come 'Roustabout', 'I've Got To Find My Baby´ (per la prima volta completa di intro e di un verso extra), una versione inedita di ´Could I Fall In Love', il master undubbed di ´There's Gold In The Mountains´, la versione stereo di ´Love Me Tender´ outtakes divertenti di ´Shake That Tambourine´ e ´Britches´ e altre...

OUR MEMORIES VOL.1 & 2
Rivisitando gli album 'Our memories of Elvis' (cioè 'Oltre la purezza del sound di Elvis') di 32 anni or sono, la Victorola vuole realizzare quella visione in avanti che Joan Deary aveva già a quel tempo.
Oggi i fans di Elvis sono disperatamente attratti da prodotti 'puri' come questo ma sfortunatamente a quell'epoca molti dei fans non capirono esattamente la concezione di quei due album che non erano mai stati considerati come 'registrazioni undubbed' (cioè non manipolate). Sia 'Our Memories Of Elvis' che 'Our Memories Of Elvis - volume 2' sono costituiti principalmente dai master completamente remixati ed editati.
Molte di queste registrazioni 'overdubbed' (manipolate), ed in alcuni casi anche parti registrate durante le sessions originali non venivano fatte passare dal mixer per ottenere un maggior risalto della voce di Elvis.
Ovviamente, in alcuni casi questo lasciava dei 'vuoti' nel sound così gli ingenieri dovevano remixarli per forza!.
Con queste nuove emissioni della Victorola, Joan Deary può finalmente dimostrare quanto la sua visione dell'epoca fosse giusta... e cioè che molti brani 'suonano' molto meglio nella loro forma più primitiva!
All'epoca, la ragione principale di questo progetto fu una cospicua richiesta da parte dei fans indispettiti dal fatto che la voce di Elvis veniva 'sommersa' sotto i numerosi strumenti e le voci di background. 'Possiamo avere più Elvis?' beh, i fans ebbero quello che volevano nel 1979...
Tutti i brani presenti in questo nuovo CD sono stati quindi remixati ma la maggior parte di essi non hanno risentito del secondo pesante mixaggio che ha originato i masters finiti poi sugli album in commercio e ottenendo così il 'puro Elvis sound".
Inoltre ogni master di questa nuova emissione è stato creato seguendo scrupolosamente i nastri di riferimento lasciati da Joan Deary e recentemente riscoperti che includono tra l'altro una traccia inedita di "It's easy for you", che rimase fuori dal Volume 2 per motivi di spazio (a causa della lunghezza della jam di "Don't Think Twice It's All Right.").

OPENING NIGHT 1971
La Flaming Phoenix Productions ha prodotto un nuovo CD dal titolo 'Opening Night 1971' che contiene lo show di apertura della quarta stagione a Las Vegas in qualità soundboard del 26 Gennaio 1971.
Per la prima volta tutte le registrazioni di questo show sono riunite in un solo CD, incluso alcune performances inedite come 'Johnny B. Goode' e 'The Wonder Of You'.
Il CD è presentato in confezione digipack cartonata.

FADED LOVE
Recentemente la Straight Arrow ha ottenuto un paio di registrazioni di alta qualità ricavate mediante un registratore a cassette della Sony del 1972 equipaggiato con due microfoni.
I microfoni erano stati posizionati ai due lati della postazione mixer di Bill Porter e di solito i risultati di queste registrazioni venivano utilizzate insieme alle registrazioni multitraccia (direttamente dal mixer) per ottenere la profondità del sound live con tanto di pubblico.
In questo caso abbiamo solo la registrazione dai due microfoni che i produttori hanno chiamato "Two Live Ambiance LIve Recording"...
'Faded Love', il primo CD di una miniserie della Straight Arrow che utilizza questo metodo di registrazione, contiene lo show all'Hilton di Las Vegas del 15 Febbraio 1973 (Dinner).
Durante questo controverso show, Elvis era fortemente influenzato e dopo 7 brani fu costretto a lasciare il palco chiedendo agli Stamps di eseguire alcuni gospel.
Charlie Hodge da grande professionista provvide a introdurre ogni brano degli Stamps e facendo qualche battuta per guadagnare tempo. Dopo una ventina di minuti Elvis si ripresentò sul palco scusandosi per i suoi problemi vocali e attaccando 'Can't Help Falling In Love' ma mentre si accingeva a lasciare il palco definitivamente decise di non deludere i suoi fans e continuò lo show.
Ovviamente cercò di trovare canzoni adatte alla sua condizione vocale e così ne uscirono alcune rarità, a partire da "Faded Love" eseguita per la primissima volta on stage e "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" che invece venne cantata l'ultimissima volta dal vivo. Anche "Polk Salad Annie" risulta un brano raro per il 1973 e in "An American Trilogy" Elvis cambia le parole dicendo: "Oh I wish I was - in the doctor's office" (speravo di essere nell'ufficio del dottore).
Rispetto alle altre emissionidella Straight Arrow, questa mini serie è presentata in un accattivante digipack artonato completoi di info e rare foto.
Questo concerto era già stato edito nel CD "Las Vegas Dinner Show" del 1992 ma la scarsa qualità audio di quest'ultimo non è assolutamente comparabile con la nuova ed ottima fonte ritrovata dalla Straight Arrow.

CHRISTMAS TODAY
Presto disponibile su etichetta Venus Productions un nuovo doppio CD dal titolo 'Christmas Today'.
Il primo CD, di colore Rosso contiene le registrazioni di Nashville del Maggio 1971 con svariate outakes e masters puri tratti da acetati di grande qualità.
Il secondo CD (Blu) contiene invece brani tratti dalla session di registrazione dell'Album 'Today' avvenute negli studi della RCA sul Sunset Boulevard a Los Angeles.
Oltre ad una strepitosa qualità audio per entrambi i CD pare che il CD Blu contenga anche alcuni frammenti ancora inediti come ad esempio la master take di 'Fairytale' che è di 40 secondi più lunga o quella di 'Susan When She Tried' anch'essa più lunga e con il suo finale originale...

In uscita su etichetta Virgo un doppio CD alquanto singolare... non tanto per il contenuto quanto per la 'motivazione' e la grafica di questo prodotto...
Infatti questa emissione, a detta dei produttori, dovrebbe essere un omaggio a quella che sarebbe la figlia primogenita e non riconosciuta di Elvis presubimilmente nata il 24 Agosto 1958 con il nome di Desiree...
Da qui il titolo del prodotto 'Happy Birthday Desiree' contenente nel 1° CD lo show del 24 Agosto 1969 durante il quale Elvis avrebbe cantato 'Are You Lonesome Tonight' per sua figlia e nel 2° CD lo show di esattamente un anno dopo (24/08/1970) contenente il brano 'When The Snow Is On The Roses' anch'esso cantato per la prima e unica volta per la sua figlia lontana... boh!!!

Il set contiene 4 registrazioni amatoriali dei seguenti show: 17 Aprile 1972 Little Rock, 14 Novembre 1972 Long Beach, 2 Marzo 1974 Tulsa, 23 Luglio 1975 Asheville. La presentazione grafica non sembra delle migliori, speriamo nella qualità audio degli show, pare infatti che lo show di Little Rock sia qualitativamente migliore del CD già in circolazione 'An Unforgettable Night in Little Rock'.

Un nuovo doppio CD che uscirà alla fine di Maggio per l'etichetta Northern Star sarà 'Black Diamond' con l'ultimo concerto che Elvis tenne a Las Vegas il 12 Dicembre 1976.
I produttori promettono notevoli migliorie nella qualità audio rispetto al CD omonimo uscito qualche anno fa che già godeva di un buona qualità.

La prossima emissione della Straight Arrow conterrà lo show di Las Vegas del 31 Agosto 1974 (dinner).
Si tratta di un concerto inedito in qualità amatoriale pare di buona qualità audio.
Con il CD, incluso in una confezione deluxe, un libretto di 16 pagine con foto tratte dal periodo Agosto/Settembre 1974 ed alcune note informative.
Il CD sarà disponibile per la fine di Aprile.
The next release from Straight Arrow (SA 2010-15-02), will be the Las Vegas August 31st, 1974 Dinner show. Elvis Summer '74 Las Vegas engagement was quite memorable not only due to the inclusion of many new or unusual songs, but also due to the long monologues on various themes. In 1974, Elvis’ main 'non-singing' interest was karate and he was awarded with an 8th black belt degree from the Korean karate master Kang Rhee. During many of these summer '74 concerts, he tried to explain his audience what karate mean to him. Nevertheless, he was also singing more than ever and his voice was in excellent shape - he gave many memorable performances.
This is a previously unreleased audience recording. An early generation copy of the original mastertape was obtained and completely restored using today's advanced technology. The sound quality is remarkable for an off-line audio source.
Just like all previous releases from this label, this new CD will come in a deluxe package with a 16-page booklet, containing a collection of photographs taken in August / September 1974 as well as informative liner notes. This CD is set for release near the end of April 2010.

La nuova etichetta Victrola farà uscire a breve la riedizione in CD del classico 'Greatest Hits Volume 1' opportunamente remasterizzato per una migliore qualità audio. Pare che la Victorola abbia intenzione di riproporre in catalogo alcuni degli album più richiesti dai fans e meno facilmente reperibili sul mercato.

I'M GONNA LEAVE THE STAGE
L'etichetta 'Le Freak Records' farà uscire a breve un nuovo CD dal titolo 'I'm Gonna Leave The Stage' contenente lo show del 15 Febbraio 1973 (Dinner) originariamente uscito nell'ormai introvabile CD del 1992 'Las Vegas Dinner Show'.
Questo show è famoso perchè Elvis uscì dal palco dopo 8 brani, nel bel mezzo di 'Fever', lasciando il compito di proseguire lo spettacolo A J.D. Sumner and The Stamps. Rientrato dopo 18 minuti Elvis cantò 'Can't help Falling In Love' e improvvisamente decise di continuare lo show. Eseguì altri 5 brani tra cui ancora 'Can't Help Falling In Love' per poi lasciare definitivamente il palco.
I produttori sostengono che la qualità audio è stata migliorata notevolmente e come bonus hanno aggiunto 3 brani dallo show inedito (persino in CD-R) del 21 Febbraio 1973 (Dinner) pare di qualità eccellente.

Svariate etichette indipendenti hanno prodotto per l'occasione edizioni limitate e speciali.
Anche Elvis ha avuto una sua speciale edizione limitata in vinile a 45 giri di "THAT'S ALL RIGHT/BLUE MOON OF KENTUCKY" con tanto di label identiche all'originale SUN e una nuova copertina.
Inoltre, incluso nel 45 giri il codice per poter effettuare il download in Mp3 di entrambi i brani.
Il vinile è stato in vendita nei negozi di dischi solo per il 'Record Store Day' del 17 Aprile 2010... senza dubbio diventerà una rarità per i collezionisti.

Dalla Gravel Road Music ecco un altro CD sul materiale di prova del TTWII, questa volta si tratta delle prove del 15 Luglio 1970 (già edite in parte nel CD 'Get Down And Get With It' della Fort Baxter).
Questo nuovo prodotto differisce dagli altri due già editi dalla Gravel Road che trattano lo stesso periodo (“The brightest star on sunset boulevard (2cd)" & “Plugged in and Geared up”): infatti questo doppio CD tratta il secondo giorno di prove per il TTWII durante il quale Elvis studia i brani, ci sono malfunzionamenti nei microfoni, Elvis impreca parlando e cantando... è questa la ragione per la quale queste storiche prove sono state rinominate 'Get Down and Dirty'.
I CD contengono ben 25 minuti di materiale inedito ed è presentato in una favolosa confezione digipack cartonata.

VEGAS VARIETY VOL.3
E' appena uscito l'ultimo CD della “Rainbow Records” dal titolo "Vegas Variety Vol.3" contenente lo show completo del 06 Agosto 1969 (dinner) a Las Vegas.
Questo show era già stato edito all'inizio degli anni '90 nel vinile "The Return of the Tigerman" che sfortunatamente era tagliato in svariati punti e il sound mediocre.
Il nuovo CD della Rainbow parte da una nuova fonte decisamente migliore e tutte le parti mancanti sono state accuratamente ripristinate.

SPRINGTIME TOURS '76-'77
La Audionics ha prodotto un nuovo doppio CD dal titolo "Springtime Tours '76 - '77" contenente l'inedito concerto soundboard del 17 Marzo 1976 a Johnson City, Tennessee, la versione binaural originale del concerto del 20 Marzo 1976 a Charlotte, North Carolina e una selezione di brani stereo registrati 'on the road' tra Marzo e Maggio 1977.
Sfortunatamente entrambi i concerti citati non sono interi e la registrazione è avvenuta su due canali (binaural) in uno dei quali vi è solo la chitarra solista, probabilmente per il fatto che ci si aspettava una sostituzione di James Burton...
Mentre il concerto del 17 Marzo è stato remixato ed è qui presentato in stereo, quello del 20 Marzo (già uscito nel CD 'Running For president') è qui disponibile nella sua originale forma binaural in qualità eccellente.
Questo nuovo prodotto della Audionics è presentato in digipack con un libretto di 16 pagine ricco di foto dai concerti presenti nei CD e dal tour Marzo-Maggio 1977.
